Hitting the road.

After taking a last look at The Empire State Building and watching the window cleaners working their way up, it was time to leave our excellent hotel in the center of New York.

We walked 10 minutes to Grand Central Station and caught a train for a 50 minute  journey to Stamford in Connecticut. From the station we literally crossed the road and collect our rental car from Hertz.

From Connecticut we drove back into New York State and crossed the Hudson River on the impressive Tappan Zee Bridge and eventually took highway 17 which was a very enjoyable drive.

After diving for 6 hours we arrived at our destination, Watkins Glen in the Finger Lakes region of New York State. Before checking in to our hotel we called at the local Walmart for a few supplies. I pointed out a sign at the checkout to Hazel that said 'unless you look over 40 years old you will be asked for ID when buying beer'. I could not believe it when the guy on the checkout asked me for ID.

ID shown and beers on board we headed for the hotel.
The hotel looked great and our room had a balcony overlooking Seneca Lake.
