High Line and an afternoon at the beach.

We had a late start this morning then walked to the High Line. The High Line is a raised railway that was build in 1934 as a safer and more efficient way to transport meat and dairy products to the meat packing district. The railway has now been rejuvenated as a very pleasant high walkway with views and planted borders.

New York parking solution.

After walking the High Line we took our time wandering through Greenwich Village. A lovely  area with older not so high buildings and many cafes with people enjoying lunch outside.

We caught the subway to Coney Island a journey of just over 1 hour.
It was then a short walk through the fun parks to the sea front and boardwalk. Quite a busy vibe, I imagine it would be manic when in full swing.

We strolled along the boardwalk to Brighton Beach, a predominantly Russian and Jewish community. This end of the boardwalk was much more restful. It wasn't so peaceful when a subway train passed on the elevated track.

After our evening meal we visited Times Square again so we could see it at night. It was far too busy for us, I'm so glad that we were not staying nearby.
